Johannes, I love the idea of throwing the cynical version of inner critic out of the window – both as a metaphor and as an actual practice. I am wondering if this voice “in the head” may also sound like the skeptic or questioning language in some of our self-talk. Also ties into the Enneagram.

Lisa & Roger, Wow, my head is still spinning from reading your posts. I am a graduate of NVW and very much agree with you (Lisa) as to how you are interpreting Sarita’s workshop on the inner critic and the power of including the “felt sense” or “physical manifestation of our inner critic on our body. Great addition to Column 2. And, agree, Sarita is amazing.

Roger, you have very nicely explained what I discovered by accident. I was initially trained on the Enneagram at NVW and later did advanced training with Russ at the Enneagram Institute (though did not complete the teacher training) and I have used the Enneagram more in the background of my coaching for about 12 years. After completing the ITC facilitation training program, I was working with a client that was pretty stuck and I thought I heard her Enneagram screaming at me. Out of curiosity I asked if she was interested in taking the assessment and she did. She was able to link together the insights from the ITC and the Enneagram which had a profound impact on shifting her self-awareness and moving her development to a deeper level. I have also discussed this with Lisa Morrice, at the Enneagram Institute in Orange County, California and she is aware of the alignment between the two development resources.

Thank you both for some wonderful Monday afternoon reading. I will need to let all of this info simmer in my brain and then read it again.

    Best, Linda D
