Thanks for this Vic! Over the past couple of years teaching people how to do ITC maps, I’ve been exposed to more and more people who speak to the importance of including the body in column 2. We say “doing/ not doing” includes non-verbals, but mostly I had been seeing that as facial expressions and tone of voice. Your comments bring home how much more non-verbals are! I don’t know if you buy Amy Cuddy’s thesis (which is more in the direction of how you body language shapes who you are compared to how your sense of self shapes your body), but her examples about people’s postures are powerful pictures of the connection (whichever way it goes!) between body and self.

Practically speaking, I can see how “embodying mindshift” can be included in a client’s Continuum of Progress. Like any counter-column 2 behaviors that are a part of testing a Big Assumption, we can have accompanying feelings and thoughts when being aware of that new and different somatic state.

Thank you to everyone who responded to our request for input (whether through the Community Forum or contacting us directly).

The consensus seems to be that although there is enthusiasm for a MAW reunion, there was no one clear option that people preferred. So please stay tuned for an announcement about dates and a topic for a September 2016 reunion. It is our hope that giving additional lead time will allow more of our community to join us and that the higher attendance will enrich both our experience and our discussions together. In the meantime, enjoy the summer!

    all best, Lisa

Thanks for your post Rebecca! Your examples are rich ones for seeing the ITC method can reveal powerful counter-commitments and self-limiting BAs. And thanks for your response Dan. I, too, am interested in the testing of these BAs. And I wonder whether some of your clients get to test the assumption, which is very common in my experience, that “my value as a person depends on what I do.” He send me a link to a David Brooks column recently that he found very meaningful as he tries to safely immagine a self that is not defined by career. I don’t know how to enter the info so it becomes a link, but hopefully entering this hhtp address below will get any interested reader there if you want to check it out. all best, Lisa

    Hi Marc,
Thanks for your question (and I’m now reminded that you asked that in your email before our call last week, and we never got to it on the call!).
I get how it seems that the question re: personal curriculum seems redundant given the other questions you include. The slight difference is that the “curriculum” question moves to which Big Assumption s/he wants to pursue in the coaching. Of all of the BAs s/he generated, which one seems like the best lever? Of course, the answer to this can morph over the coaching, but it’s important before moving to observations to know which BA your client plans to observe for. Make sense?
    all best, Lisa
